Unified storage from Strategic Storage Solutions' perspective is a storage platform that has more than one protocol supported on a single cohesive platform. When we refer to protocol supported we are referring to the transport medium that the data is carried over i.e. fiber optic or GB Ethernet (NAS) via NFS and CIFS file level and/or IPSAN enabling block level access running scsi commands over Ethernet.

 

When this capability was first brought to market we here at Strategic Storage thought of it as pretty much a marketing hype. In reality the ability to deploy a single platform with more than one interconnect capability is very powerful. There are numerous applications depending on where they are physically deployed that lend themselves better to one medium or another such as fiber – locally deployed or Ethernet – distributed across the WAN or metro WAN as a simple example.

 

Strategic Storage Solutions has found and worked with several different manufacturers that are delivering what we refer to as Unified Storage that fit a variety of different demographics.
